Meeting Wes Gordon

It's not every day you get the chance to meet a southern raised major fashion designer!  So when I was told Wes Gordon was coming to Dallas, I just had to meet him!  Wes is special in my opinion because I am partial to my Southern roots and think it's so cool that someone from the south, a place that is usually not seen at as being "high fashion" can make it so huge into the fashion industry!  Not only is he major...but he is all but 28 years old!  This Atlanta, GA native has interned with Tom Ford, Oscar de la Renta and launched his first womenswear collection right out of school in 2009.  Wes has already had so much success as a young designer in the industry.  His design's have been worn by Katy Perry, Kim Kardasian, Gwyneth Paltrow and many others!  He has also received many awards including the Fashion Group International Rising Star award.

Riding up the escalator to the third floor at Neiman Marcus Northpark, my friend Alex and I were nervously giggling in anticipation to meet Wes.  Finally we reached the top, and there he was!  We walked up to him and in the softest, most sophisticated manner he reached out his hand and smiled "Hi I'm Wes, nice to meet you."  My first thought instantly was that he seems like a sweet, genuine person!  Not stuffy, scary or intimidating.  We immediately began chatting while we browsed his AMAZING Fall 2014 collection.  He said he just arrived in Dallas from New York and he came straight to North Park. What an honor to have him in our city, I thought.

He suggested I try on one of his favorite pieces which is his woden wool felt coat with a saga fox fur collar, so I did what the man said!  Breathtaking....now if only money grew on trees (sigh).  I asked him, "How long does it take for you to design a single piece for a collection?  He replied, "About three weeks."  I could tell he was a true artist by the way he touched and admired his pieces.  As I daydreamed about this coat for a few minutes, Alex got into conversation with him about London.  They both attended school there.

We also had the pleasure of seeing his collection on a model

What a great experience we had!  I look forward to seeing Wes' designs for many more years to come and wish him all the success in the world!
